DIY Watercolor Pumpkin Tutorial

The beauty of art is that there are so many ways to create one single thing. And if I like one style, there maybe thousands of other people who don’t. I’m a huge fan painting loose with watercolors. Almost all of my tutorials  focus on creating illustrations that capture the essence of a particular scenario/image. In my Learn Watercolors series, I have a post exclusively on loose watercolor painting. Now let’s get started with the watercolor pumpkin tutorial.

Materials required:

Semi-Realistic DIY Watercolor Pumpkin Tutorial

To begin with, draw a rough outline in pencil. Paint each segment of the pumpkin separately. The white space will act as the dividing element. The paint is must be applied in its full hue.

For giving it depth, add a darker shadow around the edges of each segment. The portion that comes behind will be darker in hue. Paint the stalk and leaves to finish.

After drawing a rough outline in pencil, paint a light wash with watercolor. While the paint is still wet, paint the edges and divisions to give it depth. This would also be a good time to paint the stalk and leaves if any. The paint will merge creating a beautiful effect.

Continue adding paint while the paper is still wet. Do this until you’re happy with the outcome. You can create the divisions by leaving the paper white as previously explained. Check out this post over at my blog to see how you can do the same while still keeping it loose.
