Hey guys ! It’s Zakkiya again and I’m back with another fun tutorial for you.I created this card for my dearest other half for our anniversary. And then I figured that this can be a perfect Valentine’s Day card as well. So I documented my progress to create a floral Valentine’s Day card tutorial for you. Enjoy!
DIY Floral Valentines Day Card
Materials you’ll need for the floral Valentine’s Day card tutorial are:
- Watercolor paper
- Inkjet printer (optional)
- Watercolor paints
- Watercolor brushes
- Black card stock
- Double sided tape
- Precision knife
- Bone folder
Step 1: Grab some thick watercolor paper. I would suggest at least 225 GSM or more. You can download this free template that fits an A4 sized paper. Resize it on an editing software to suit the size you need.
Print the pattern. I use an inexpensive printer (HP Deskjet 3050A) but it does the job. If you have a printer that does not support thick paper, you can print and trace it over watercolor paper. If you own a lightbox, that will makes things easier.Or else you can use the window! Cut it to the size you require. Mine is 4″ by 6″. Fold to make a card. Now here , you can use a bone folder to smooth out the crease. But I don’t own one, so I used the blunt end of a cutlery knife. It does the job perfectly.
Step 2: Start painting! I used watercolor for painting the flowers and leaves. You can print the pattern on regular card stock and use any other art medium you like.
Step 3: Next, we’re going to place the word “love” on top of the floral valentine’s day card. For this, I used black card stock and cut out the letters using a precision knife. If you own a silhouette machine, you can avoid the hassle of cutting the letters manually.
Step 4: To make the letters pop from the surface of the card, use double-sided tape at the back. Stick them in random order on the card as shown below.
Step 5: I believe every card should come with a pretty envelope. First, draw a box around the card of the envelope. This is to write your recipient’s name. If you want to include an address, make the box bigger. Then, add some pretty leaves around the box using a micron pen. I didn’t crowd the envelope and kept the focus on the left side.
Step 6: The next step is to add some color. I used the FineTec pearl palette and the color green to fill inside a few leaves.
Then using a calligraphy pen, I wrote the recipient’s name inside the box. And that’s it! You’ve successfully created a beautiful floral Valentines day card and a matching envelope.
Heres a GIF to show you how pretty the pearl green is!
