DIY Watercolor Heart Wreath

Hi ! It’s Zakkiya of Inkstruck Studio and I’m back again with another fun watercolor tutorial. This time, the theme being Valentine’s Day! I’m going to teach you to paint a DIY watercolor heart wreath with colors that are not so typical of the season of love! I’m going with blues, greens, and yellows which I personally think is a pleasant change from the usual pinks and reds! I hope you think the same as well.

DIY Watercolor Heart Wreath

What is it that you love doing for Valentine’s day? Is it a huge deal or are you one of those people who think it’s just a marketing gimmick? For me personally, I don’t really care much about Valentine’s Day but I like to do a little something for my other half. Something very simple like making a card or cooking his favorite dish. And he does the same for me as well. This time, though, my little one will be baking with me. Looking forward to some laughter and mess! Who says V-Day is only for adults? Anyhow, getting back to the tutorial….

Materials required for DIY watercolor heart wreath:

Draw the outline of a heart shape in pencil. While drawing, make it interesting by altering the shape by making it funky. Start at one point and paint clusters of leaves as you progress.

A little bit about the brush I’m using for this DIY watercolor heart. This is a filbert brush and I love using it for mark making and painting leaves. I hold the brush almost perpendicular to the paper to paint the leaves.

I started painting with blue, moved on to green, and then to yellow leaves.

Complete the leaves by adding berries in between. Fill in any vacant spots to bring the heart together. You can leave it as it is or add few words of your choice.

Make this DIY watercolor heart into greeting cards, prints or even gift tags. The choice is yours!
